Minute Maid Park - Union Station Rooftop
Our youth are our future. They will be our employers, employees, public servants and community leaders. They will carry the torch. Encouraging our youth to continue their education can be a catalyst for preparing the future businessman and businesswomen of tomorrow. Higher education helps equip our young people to take on the challenges of entrepreneurship or working in a professional environment.
Youth and education have long been a priority of HCCC and it will continue to be so. We believe helping to educate and support our young people is everyone’s responsibility. The goal of the education program is to have a positive impact in the lives of young people by providing resources to achieve higher education.
The 32nd Annual Education Achievement Awards Reception is being held in collaboration with the East End Chamber of Commerce. Between the two Chambers, 16 local students will each be awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
This year, the event will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Minute Maid Park on the Union Station rooftop. Paula M. Harris, new HISD Board Trustee, District IV and Marian Harper, Houston Astros Vice President of Community Development, will serve as co-chairs and Tracye McDaniel, EVP and COO of the Greater Houston Partnership, will motivate and inspire during the brief reception. Following the program, attendees will enjoy a Houston Astros baseball game. A space limited 125 guests will be invited and be comprised of sponsors, HCCC/EECC representatives, students, parents, principals and counselors.
Students will be awarded scholarships based on academic performance and essay response.
