Catherine Flowers embodies entrepreneurship and community development. She has over 20 plus years of successful nonprofit, public service, corporate and self employment experience. She recently departed from Capital One Bank as Vice President of Community Development after successfully assisting them to increase their CRA rating and bank relationships. She resigned to launch Catherine Flowers Enterprise; a full service project management and technical assistance provider agency. Her current clients include: The Children’s Defense Fund, John Lucas Enterprise, Cullen Middle School, the American Heart Association and serves as the managing director of H.O.P.E. Community Housing Development Org. In her vast experience she works closely with community leaders, non-profits, elected officials, city agencies, churches and small businesses one-on-one or leading projects with their management and staff to build capacity to deliver services to communities in need. Because of her vast experiences she is considered an industry expert in Economic and Community Development.
Ms. Flowers’ community and economic development efforts have yielded numerous successes like the State of Louisiana homeowner policy premium assistance program, the creation of the University of New Orleans Charter School System, the creation of the Lake Area Middle School in New Orleans, numerous Business Development training programs for entrepreneurs and small businesses and the appointment of the Economic Development Chair for the National Black MBA association. Previously, as a member of the Louisiana Lieutenant Governor’s Executive Management team Flowers served as the Director of Governmental and Community Affairs. Because of Hurricane Katrina she evacuated to Houston and established an office in Texas on behalf of the State of Louisiana. As a result of her leadership and passion to serve she collaborated with the City of New Orleans, the City of Houston and numerous Texas public and private agencies, elected officials and the like to provide aid and services to hundreds of thousands of evacuees. After leaving her appointed government position Flowers continued her community development efforts in Houston. Successful projects also include but not limited to the opening of the Barbara Jordan Child Development Center, the creation of the Red Cross Faith Base Task Force, and the procurement of millions of dollars for Hurricane Relief services.
Flowers have multiple degrees and also graduated from Loyola University Institute of Politics. She speaks and writes professionally on community development issues and volunteers her expertise to public education, community development, cultural organizations and serves on several boards including the Children Assessment Center of Houston, The Houston Tennis Association and other committees in Houston and New Orleans.
